In South Africa, fumigation usually means a professional whole-property pest treatment: insecticide applied inside and around a home or business to kill the insects that are there and leave a residual barrier against new ones. It's the service most people book for cockroaches, ants, fleas or a mix of pests, and when moving into a new place.
A Cape Shield fumigation starts with an inspection so we know exactly what we're treating. We then treat kitchens, bathrooms, cupboards, skirting, drains, roof access points and the outside perimeter, using sprays, gel baits and other methods matched to the pests. You get clear instructions on how to prepare, how long to stay out and what to expect afterwards. Fumigation FAQs
How long do I need to stay out after fumigation?
It depends on the products and method used. For most residential fumigations, people and pets stay out until treated surfaces are dry, which is usually a few hours. We give you an exact re-entry time for your treatment before we start.
How long does a fumigation last?
A residual treatment usually keeps working for several weeks to a few months, depending on the products, the surfaces treated, cleaning and the weather. Heavy cockroach infestations need a follow-up visit.
Is fumigation the same as tenting?
No. In South Africa, fumigation normally means a residual insecticide treatment of the property. Tenting is structural gas fumigation, a specialised process used for certain wood-boring and stored-product pests. Ask us if you think you need it.
Should I clean after fumigation?
Wipe food preparation surfaces and anything that touches food before use. Avoid washing skirting, corners and cracks where the residual treatment was applied for as long as we advise, so it keeps working.
